
Kevin M. Iiams
Lieutenant General, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired
Lieutenant General Kevin Iiams leads Kevin Iiams Consulting LLC, providing professional organizational and strategic business advice to Omega Air Refueling Services. He is a native of New Orleans, LA and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1986. He was commissioned into the U.S. Marine Corps and was assigned to fly the FA-18 Hornet. His early operational tours included participation in combat for Operations DESERT SHIELD/ DESERT STORM and NOBLE EAGLE and supported contingency operations during multiple WESTPAC deployments. He has logged over 4000 hours in tactical aircraft and has flown over 500 combat hours on over 270 combat missions.
Lieutenant General Iiams’ staff and joint assignments were as a Forward Air Controller Instructor, FA-18 Tactics Instructor/ Division Head and Adversary Pilot at MAWTS-1 and as the Operations Officer for Marine Aircraft Group 11 where he planned and supported combat Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and IRAQI FREEDOM. At USCENTCOM he served as the Battlestaff-Exercise Branch Chief; the Chief of Operations for the Joint Operations Center; and Director J7 Training and Exercises.
Lieutenant General Iiams’ Command tours include VMFA-242 “The Bats”, which deployed to Iraq for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM II and produced a record setting 3800 combat sorties and 8300 combat hours in just nine months and was recognized as the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron of the year. He also commanded Marine Aircraft Group 41 in Fort Worth, Texas, and served as the Assistant Wing Commander for 2d MAW (FWD) HQ in Afghanistan for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM 13.
As a Brigadier General he served as the Deputy Director for Operations in the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon overseeing real-time nuclear command and control and global current operations; as Assistant Wing Commander, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing in Miramar, CA; and as Commander of US MARFORSOUTH where he was responsible for all US Marine activities across Central and South America and the Caribbean. As a Major General he served as the Commanding General Training and Education Command followed by Commanding General 3d Marine Aircraft Wing and subsequently served concurrently as the Deputy Commander Marine Corps Combat Development Command and Assistant Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration.
Most recently, Lieutenant General Iiams served as the Commanding General for the Marine Corps’ Training and Education Command, where he was responsible for all training and education initiatives, standards, and programs, for the US Marine Corps to include entry-level “boot-camp” training, all occupational schools, and the Marine Corps’ University degree producing programs, totaling 160,000 students per year. During this tour he also served as one of two uniformed members on the Secretary of the Navy’s Education Executive Committee.
Lieutenant General Iiams graduated from Amphibious Warfare School; the Weapons and Tactics Instructor course; the Air Force Air Command and Staff College; the US Army War College; and the Armed Forces Staff College. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a Master’s degree in Military Arts and Science and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies.
