Thomas “Tommy” Morgan is from Alamogordo, NM, and currently serves in the United States Air Force as a C-130J pilot and Air Mobility Liaison Officer (AMLO) to the US Army’s 173rd IBCT(A) in Vicenza, Italy.

Tommy was born in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and grew up in New Mexico, Shekhou, China, and Kuwait due to his father’s job in the oil industry.  In 2010, Tommy graduated with his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and has since furthered his education by earning an MBA from Webster University, a Graduate Certificate in Advanced International Affairs from The Bush School (Texas A&M), and is now in his final semester as an International Affairs and Leadership (IAL) master’s student at ASU.

Prior to living in Italy, Tommy was posted in Ramstein Air Base, Germany, for four years, serving in his primary skill set as an instructor pilot.  While working in this capacity, he had unique opportunities to engage with partner nations for training and real-world flying missions across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Tommy is pursuing an IAL degree because he is passionate about refining a methodology for understanding US sovereign interests through all facets of diplomacy as they relate to current and future partner nations. Participation in the LDNS Fellowship will compound his military experience in multiple facets of leadership by providing the framework for understanding current events and the potential ramifications of diplomatic responses.  From this Fellowship, he hopes to take away leadership tools and techniques that can translate into his current liaison job and into his future military aspirations as he strives to enter the worlds of diplomacy, politics, and foreign affairs.

In his spare time, Tommy enjoys lifting weights, running, cycling, and reading.  In the next ten years, Tommy hopes to be conversationally proficient in Arabic, complete an Ironman, and establish himself as an esteemed problem solver, public servant, and relationship builder in the international arena on behalf of the United States.
